Skagway

Sorry for the time off but the computer was in for a quarterly check up. Glad to say all is clean and ready to go. When we got to Skagway we had booked a trip on the White Pass / Yukon Rout railway. The rails were laid in 1895. They follow the rout the gold miners used to get to the Yukon Territory. The rout goes thru British Columbia on the way.
In the old days before a miner could cross in to Canada he had to have 6 months supplies. This could take up to 20 trips with a mule before they could cross. The scenery was spectacular for our trip and as we climbed the mountains the snow got deeper and deeper.
As we started back down the snow startes coming down. It snowes hard enough that several trips after ours had to be cancled. Every once in a while along the tracks you will see an old cabose. The rail line leaves them there so hikers can stay in them and get out of the cold.
Once we got back to town we walked around Skagway for a while. Parkes in town is an old train with a snow blower.
I was surprised to see in town that they have wooden sidewalks. It looks like an old western town.
Next time we will wrap this thing up with Glaciers and mountians. See ya.

Looks like a great time in Skagway! I love to get way out into the real countryside on a trip. You can stay at a Holiday Inn anywhere and never know what town you were in.
I would love to stay in one of those caboose cabins on a backpacking trip...
